Another step forward

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Last Sunday I signed myself up on a free datingsite.
It may seem fast considering everything, especially with all the stuff that’s still going on like my search for a new job and my nearly weekly talks to a psychologist where I’m working on finding the old me again, but I feel ready for it so I may as well give it a shot.

This is my profile and even though I’ve left some stuff out, it seems to say everything I want it to say. The photo of me and Chewie will probably scare of some men but Chewie is simply part of the deal. ;-) I didn’t take him with me all the way from the US to dump him for some guy. I know that some people will say that he’s “just a pet” but screw them. The hamsters (and 3 mice I’m getting in a week) are part of the deal of course too. I love my pets and feel really responsibly for them.

Talking about pets. Kipje is on antibiotics because he has a inner ear infection. It’s a real pain to give them to him but I’m coping and so far he hasn’t been able to bite me yet. ;-)
Goliath is recovering really well from his castration and it looks like 1 of the new rats is taking over his leader spot. Luckily “The 2nd” isn’t as aggressive as Goliath was so this should work out a lot better.

Today is Queens Day and I’m going to hunt for a really large cage for the mice I’m getting. The aquarium Ray had turned out to be a lot smaller then expected (but it’s perfect for poor blind Kipje) and I know that there are always plenty of cages.
If I can’t find a big one then I’ll just get 2 and improvise on connecting them. I’m good in improvising and so is Ray so together I’m sure that we’ll figure out something.

Next Thursday my website will be down for a while because I’m switching servers. That should save me 50 euro’s/year so that really makes it worth it.

A new addition to our “petting zoo”

Meet Kipje, my latest pet :

kipje2 A new addition to our petting zoo

My fitness buddy told me that a old high school friend (with whom I haven’t stayed in contact with) and his wife currently have way to much on their plate to take care of him properly so they were looking for a new home for him.
So I told her to let them know that I wouldn’t mind taking him in. I’ve already taken in another hamster (Liadan) and it’s not like they’re expensive or a lot of work to take care off. They brought him by last night and I fell in love with him straight away.
He’s such a tiny, hyperactive, funny and cute furball. :D

He is really nearsighted which is why I changed his multiplatform cage (which was in pretty bad shape) into a plastic aquarium Ray still had laying around. It is quite small but at least he won’t fall down anymore. I’ll just have to keep my eyes open for a bigger version but this should do nicely for the time being.
He got his name due to his nearsightedness by the way. It’s the Dutch word for little chicken. In Dutch “being chicken” means being very nearsighted so it’s very fitting and I’m keeping it.

I have to admit that I’m currently looking into getting even more pets. I’ve always thought that mice are really cute and they’re a lot smarter and active during the day then most hamsters so that should be a lot of fun.
Liadan seems to be slowing down a lot lately so I’m not sure how much longer she’ll be around. She’s only 1 year old but hamsters rarely get older then 2 and she was bought in a petshop. I’ll be getting 2 female mice from a breeder since animals from good breeders are often a lot healthier and life longer. There are always exceptions of course but I want to have as much fun with them as possible. I’m not planning on getting any hamsters myself once the current ones die so mice should be a nice premature replacement.

I’ve finally had my physical recheck and talk and I’m now officially back at being disabled for 65-80%. Before I went to the US I was put in the 25-35% group but the last few years my spine has gotten so much worse that I knew I needed a recheck. I had already applied for 1 in October 2008 but it never happened even though I asked for it a few times a year since then.

Saturday is our combined birthday party but so far it seems like not a lot of people will show up. Oh well, at least most of our best friends will come and our parents, sister and brother so it should still be a fun evening.

Edit : I forgot to post my latest 3D picture “Lunaneko” :

Coincidence or was it maybe a …. Ghost?

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

I was just heading back from taking Chewie for his evening walk and was about to grab my keys to unlock the apartments main door when it suddenly slid open. At first I thought that someone had opened it from the inside and was about to leave the building but there was nobody there. I glimpsed up and I didn’t see anybody there either. It was simply weird.

I told Raymond about it and gave him my 3 theories :

  1. Someone accidently and coincidentally hit the open button in 1 of the other 699 apartments when I was just about to open the door,
  2. Someone likes to open doors for others or
  3. It was a ghost who saw that I was cold and limping (tough day) and was kindly enough to open it for me. ;)

Ray of course responded with the good old Ghostbusters “Who you’re gonna call…” but who wants to bust a useful ghost? :P

I especially like the latter theory since I’ve been watching the first season of Ghost Whisperer and this was just too funny. While I was walking outside I did have the feeling that I was being watched and Chewie stayed even closer to me then usual when it’s dark (he’s very protective of me, especially at night) so that makes option 2 more likely since I never know what to think about the general theory of Ghosts.
I keep a open mind though since I’m sure that there is more out there then many of us know.

What’s your theory?
