Flour Tortilla’s

I love to make things from scratch since it’s so much healthier and cheaper then what you buy in the store. It’s tastier too and that makes it totally worth it.

We eat a lot of Mexican food so I got a tortilla maker for my 28th birthday and I use it a lot.

Ingredients.

  • 2 cups of flour. I use 1 1/3th all purpose and 2/3th whole wheat flour.
  • 1.5 tsp of baking powder
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 2 tsp of vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup of milk

Equipment.

  • a mixing bowl
  • a fork
  • measuring tools
  • a skillet and rolling pin or a tortilla maker

Making the tortilla’s.

Total preparation time : ~1.5 hours

1) Mix all the ingredients together.

2) Keep adding flour and knead the dough until it is no longer sticky.

3) Cover it well so the dough doesn’t dry out and let it rest for 20 minutes.

4) Knead it again for a few minutes and divide it into 8 balls.

5) Cover it again and let it rest for another 20 minutes.

When using a electric tortilla maker :
6) Flatten a ball and put it in the back of the tortilla maker.

7) Now flatten it a few times and make sure that you don’t keep it down to long or it will crack due to the air that is trying to escape. Reposition the dough when necessary.

8.) Fully open the tortilla maker when the tortilla has reached the right size and bake it on each side until it’s slightly browned.

7) Put some oil in the skillet and bake the tortilla in it until it’s slightly browned on both sides.
